Mortgage Statement & Escrow Guide

Checking your monthly mortgage statement and fixing what is wrong

How long to keep statements

Statement answer

Keep each mortgage statement at least until the next one confirms your payment posted, and keep year-end statements and Form 1098 with your tax records. Keep the closing disclosure, the note and proof of payoff for as long as you own the home and for a period after. These records settle disputes about payments, escrow and taxes.
